The Brett Domino Trio
You are here
The Brett Domino Trio is Brett Domino & Steven Peavis. They are known for their use of atypical musical instruments (eg. Kazoo, Stylophone, ukulele, various electronic gadgets), although primarily they play the keytar and keyboard percussion respectively. Their video cover versions and original songs are very popular on YouTube, where they have received millions of hits.
Brett Domino was born in Leeds in the early eighties. In 2005, he 'met' fellow Yorkshire-folk, Steven Peavis and Mitch Hutchinson on an online Scelextric forum. Together, they attempted to organise the 'Bradford and Leeds Scalextricers Annual Convention' (BaLSAC), but sadly nobody else turned up. Unfazed by this, they bonded over slot-cars and discovered many other shared interests, such as the music of Prince; the film adaptations of the books of Michael Crichton; Wagon Wheels; and a mutual love of the home keyboard.
Three years later, Brett created a YouTube account and uploaded a short video of himself playing a medley of eighties hits on the Stylophone. After the unexpected online success of this video, Brett was flooded with requests to perform live. Not having the confidence (or material) to perform in front of an audience alone, Brett emailed Steven and Mitch, and they formed the Brett Domino Trio - (possibly) the world's first all-keyboard band. Together, they performed all over the UK (a total of six gigs), appeared on Britain's Got Talent, and made a number of successful viral YouTube videos.
In 2009, Mitch Hutchinson (keyboard bass) decided that he couldn't handle the pressures of fame, and left the band. Brett and Steven continued under the name of the Brett Domino Trio, and found unprecedented success with their reinterpretations and medleys of popular hip-hop, pop and RnB songs. They have appeared on telly and radio, as well as countless web blogs - all while living at their respective parents' houses in Leeds.
At the end of 2010, Brett struck gold with his original song about 'I'm A Celebrity...' contestant, Gillian McKeith. The video immediately went viral, and the song shot to #29 in the UK singles chart - charting higher than new entries by Kylie, Gorillaz and The Beatles. The financial benefits of a Top 40 hit enabled Brett to get his own (small) flat in Leeds city centre. Unfortunately, Steven was on holiday at the time Brett wrote the song, so was unable to participate.
He still lives with his mum.
