Carly Smallman performing at the Musical Comedy Awards

Carly Smallman sings funny songs. She was born in 1985, but didn’t begin performing stand-up comedy until 2009. Her unique blend of outrageous impropriety and adorable sincerity has established her as a firm favourite on the comedy circuit. She has played at some fabulous venues, from major weekend comedy clubs, to arts centres, to the Hammersmith Apollo to her living room!

She has appeared as a panellist on VIRAL TAP (ITV) doing stand-up on THE ROB BRYDON SHOW (BBC2), was a regular cast member for hidden camera show SECRET INTERVIEW (Channel 5), moaned about irritating individuals on THE MOST ANNOYING PEOPLE 2011 (BBC3), and criticised people’s life choices on THE TOP 50 PLASTIC SURGERY SHOCKERS (E4). She has also written and performed sketches for BBC Comedy Online, and has been heard on WHAT’S SO FUNNY (BBC Radio 4 Extra) with Rufus Hound.

Competition terrifies Carly, but she was a Musical Comedy Awards Finalist (2011), a Laughing Horse Semi-Finalist (2010), and finalist and first runner-up in the Bedford New Comedian of the Year (2010). In 2009 and 2010 she was an Amused Moose Hot Starlet.

She once filmed an advert for ‘Take A Break’ Magazine…her Mum was really proud.

Carly has also enjoyed success as an improviser, and was one of the original cast members of fringe smash SCENES FROM COMMUNAL LIVING: **** (British Theatre Guide), ‘Very funny, fresh and endlessly creative‘ – (Time Out), ‘London’s hottest young comedy improvisers‘ – (Fringe Review). She has trained with Keith Johnstone, Alan Marriott and Lauren Flans, and often likes to incorporate improvised material in her set. She was also an original member of hip-hop comedy act ABANDO’MAN (who she has supported on tour). Other improvised shows have included fringe sell-out YOU’RE NOT THE ONE with Luisa Omielan(Edinburgh Festival 2010), and SCARED SCRIPTLESS: THE IMPORVISED HORROR MOVIE (Edinburgh Festival 2007). Carly was also the winner of the Improv Idol Award in 2008.

Not content with just being looked at, Carly also likes to be listened to. She presented a South London radio show with a different comedian guest host each week and is currently in talks to bring the show back online after her local radio station sadly ran out of funding.

At present, Carly is working on a variety of different projects. She is currently writing follow up Edinburgh show to 2013′s debut ‘The Appalling Carly Smallman’. It is called ‘Made in Penge’ and promises to be an hour of jokes, songs, body confidence and empowerment!

Carly Smallman is a fan of Nando’s, self tanning moisturiser, and Beyonce.

She got 2.1 in her degree. It was in Classical Civilisations. She currently lives in Beckenham.
